Complacency

by
H. Vanoy Barton

I don't need to worry. There is enough to last several hundred years. Social security will always be there. The stock market will never crash again. The USA is the world's only superpower. There is no such thing as climate change. There is a new world coming. Things will be better next year. Things never change. It doesn't affect me! How often have you heard these, or similar, statements from friends, politicians, preachers, commentators or Jane and John Q. Public?

Besides the fact that each statement above is illogical, each is a shining examples of the fastest spreading diseases in history: Complacency. Change is a necessary fact and facet of life. Be aware, be prepared - change can come at anytime. Complacency steals initiative, progress, hope, love and life. Complacency is a worm on a hook - don't be a fish. Live and love for tomorrow, or in the blink of an eye, or the thunder of a bomb - everything can change.
