"Doomsday. Or is it?"

Night of the Desert Gods

For thousands of years there has been talk of Armageddon, Apocalypse - the end of the world. This evening’s newscast immediately followed by an emergency Presidential address left me shaken and convinced the trumpet of doom is sounding – for the first and last time.

Something like this has been the subject of intense speculation, vituperative diatribe, ridicule, conjecture, argument and debate for years within the thoughtspace of an Internet abode of choice for thousands, Godlike Productions. Now it isn’t speculation, it is a fact known the world over. An asteroid seven miles in diameter is headed directly for Earth. The estimated impact is less than nine days from now in the American Southwest.

Sure, it’s not the Four Horsemen of the Arabic Peninsula or alien encounters of the worst kind, but the dog and pony show headed my way will do what no Hollywood blockbuster, or pulpit pounding sermon ever could: Kill all life on this planet. Why had the approaching doom not been noticed earlier? Why such little notice? Why? I’m not clear about that. I’m not sure anyone is. In fact I don’t think anyone cares. The President’s thirty-minute speech pretty much said it all – bend over and kiss your ass goodbye. Farewell humanity, hello eternity.

More to Come
